Benazir Income Support Program
The Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) was initiated by the Government of Pakistan in 2008 with the primary goal of providing financial assistance to the country’s poor population. It is considered one of Pakistan’s largest social safety net programs and has received recognition both within the country and internationally.
Recently, the government has made further improvements to the program by increasing the monthly installment from 8,750 rupees to 9,000 rupees. This adjustment aims to help alleviate the financial burden on low-income individuals and families in the face of rising inflation.
Additionally, the government has launched scholarship programs to support higher education for low-income students. In 2023, scholarships will be awarded to 92,000 students enrolled in undergraduate programs at public universities. The scholarship includes a monthly stipend of 4,000 rupees ($50) and covers the cost of education. This initiative aims to promote access to higher education for deserving students and invest in the country’s human capital.
It’s encouraging to see the government’s commitment to improving the welfare and education opportunities for its citizens through these programs.
